There's zine fever in the air, and I have the urge to stick to the State by distributing a cheap, photocopied, self-published, rant-filled journal extolling the views to market anarchy. No craven compromise like Reason, no immpenetrable scholarly tone, just a bunch of entertaining, informative, and useful articles. Plus maybe a few cartoons. And maybe a few reviews. A few.
My question is, would a zine help "the cause"? It would be a shoestring operation, with no budget. Are there other, better market anarchy zines out there that I don't know about that are already filling this niche? And in this new world of No-Treason.com, Lewrockwell.com, Anti-state.com, etc., should I concentrate on a website instead, and forget what may be an obsolete medium?

Re: Is it worth my time to start a market anarchist Zine?
Sat, January 1, 2005 - 1:16 PMYou youngsters and your traditional conservative ways of doing things!
Have you ever picked up a copy of LIBERTY? Not as slick as REASON but still professional--most of the time. Varying views. The website is very outdated but you can peruse some of their old stuff at libertysoft
www.libertysoft.com/liberty/...rted.html
They are still in business. I saw an issue in the last couple of months and they are sold at Amazon.com.
At this point, I'd say start a webzine instead of a hardcopy zine. Or a blog. There are plenty out there already of course which is why I don't see why a hardcopy zine would be that necessary to the cause. The Internet has been a wonderful place for exchanging information and meeting others. Simply lovely.

Re: Is it worth my time to start a market anarchist Zine?
Sat, January 1, 2005 - 9:39 PMI have read LIBERTY. Every issue I leaf through seems to have to main features: a general lack of focus, and a penchant for attacking the LP, but primarily in a reformist sense. Far too many pro-war articles for a magazine dedicated to the smashing (or withering, or evaporating, or transcending- pick your own metaphor) the State, as well. Despite being started by an anarchist, it doesn't seem particularly....I dunno, anarchistic.
Anything more extreme than LIBERTY out there? -

Re: Is it worth my time to start a market anarchist Zine?
Sun, January 2, 2005 - 7:10 PMI'm still conflicted. But now I'm conflicted with more information and an alternative viewpoint, so thanks for that. I suppose I should concentrate on writing libertarian articles period, before I start plannig my own magazine. -

Re: Is it worth my time to start a market anarchist Zine?
Mon, August 22, 2005 - 4:48 PMHave you ever looked at the other "Liberty," the one published by Benjamin Tucker in the 1800's? It makes the new Liberty look like a cheap knock-off. The older one is full of debates over much more substantive issues, in my own opinion.
I think some sort of market anarchist zine would be an increadibly helpful thing, maybe a counterbalance to the more traditional and conservative publications like Reason and Liberty.
